The editorial I chose is from the New York Times, published on February 5, 2009. It is a political piece praising President Obama's plans for America so far. I like the structure of the editorial and the arguments it makes. I also like the fact that it is a good reporting piece in addition to it being an opinion piece. It has good facts and sources and it is also a good length.

Contributors to this blog are students in MC4356b - Editorials, Columns and Opinions: Excellence in Opinion Writing. Most of the students in the class are print journalism majors nearing graduation.
Comment Assignment
Find an editorial or column in a publication that interests you. (Check class schedule to determine which type of opinion piece is required on the various dates.)
Write a synopsis of the editorial or column on which you are commenting. Include your evaluation of the piece. Include the headline, publication and date in your synopsis and link to the Web site on which your editorial or column can be found.
Go to the original Web site where you found the editorial or column and log a comment about what you read on that Web site.
If you use a different screen name on the original Web site, include that name in your synopsis so your comments can be easily found. If you use a screen name on this blog, add your byline to your blog post.
Group Project Assignment
Post your group project here prior to the due date. Include a synopsis of your project and samples of the opinion writing you are profiling. Include links to the examples of specific types of opinion writing. You may want to include photos, graphics, video or other elements with your entry.
You may do an overview of the specific type of opinion writing you have selected or you may select on specific author, publication or genre on which to focus.
